Journal Editor, Michael W LeRoy

Most people who know Michael W LeRoy would tell you that he’s an excellent lawyer. They would describe one of the more than 60 cases that he has carried to verdict by jury trial. Or, they would tell you that his ambition led him to found his own law firm in 2007.

However, few people know that Michael W LeRoy has worn many hats in his life. While working hard as a law student at the Florida State University College of Law (LeRoy graduated with honors), Michael W LeRoy was an editor.

LeRoy edited the prestigious Journal of Land Use and Environmental Law. The Journal wasn’t your average University journal then or now.  The Journal of Land Use and Environmental Law is widely recognized throughout the legal field as being a leader in innovative thought and research.

For Michael W LeRoy, being the editor of such an influential journal was an incredible experience. Though he brought a good deal of knowledge and experience to the table, Michael W LeRoy will be the first to tell you that he also had a lot of on-the-job learning to do.

From reading through submissions to coordinating layout and publishing schedules, Michael W LeRoy was thoroughly consumed by the Journal of Land Use and Environmental Law. However, LeRoy doesn’t regret a single minute spent with the journal. Not only did it expose him to a very important field of law – one in which he would spend many hours practicing after admittance to the Florida Bar, but it also exposed him to a vast professional network that he still leverages today as a practicing lawyer.

Today, more than 20 years later, Michael W LeRoy is immensely thankful for being entrusted to edit the Journal as a young law school student. LeRoy still enjoys reading the Journal of Land Use and Environmental Law today.
